One of our local favorites is on the move, but luckily, they aren’t going far. Neighborhood Joe, the popular vegan cafe and eatery, will close its current location at 2609 Dr. MLK Jr St N at the end of this week, with its final day of operation on December 17. Vector Broker, Ned Willis represented Neighborhood Joe on securing this new location.
The indie cafe will then transition to its new location just down the block at 2325 Dr. MLK Jr St N, in the same plaza as Trip’s Diner and Jennie’s Flowers. While opening timelines are always up in the air as restaurants await final permitting, Neighborhood Joe ownership says they hope to be open in the new location by late January, if not, perhaps, even sooner
While we’ll miss the great coffee and tasty vegan eats during the month without them, regulars will be happy to know that all the same things they’ve loved about Neighborhood Joe over the years will be coming along to the new location. And in fact, this new location will offer more outdoor and patio space than the current cafe. You’ll be able to raise a mug and air-toast passerby.
In addition to hot and iced coffees, lattes, and teas, Neighborhood Joe has become a cult favorite for its savory baked goods and all-vegan eats, including plenty of gluten-free options. The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch daily, featuring a wide variety of sandwiches, omelets, melts, salads, pastries, and smoothie bowls. The blueberry muffins are difficult to resist when stopping in for a cup of coffee, and the vegan BLT is a particular delight: marinated tempeh, tomato, avocado slices, fresh arugula and sprouts with “veganaise” on your choice of bread (gluten-free sourdough, gluten-free millet and flax, or thick sliced multigrain.) Follow Neighborhood Joe on instagram for more updates over the next month. Also, check out our instagram reel on the cafe for some lunchtime inspiration.
